MAGMA 4Sp - 4 Port Serial SBus Multiplexor: The MAGMA 4 Sp is an SBusexpansion board that has four high speed asynchronous serial ports withfull modem control. It can be used to connect to ISDN Terminal Adapters,modems, terminals, printers/plotters or any other RS-232 device. It isfully compatible with Sun Microsystem's(TM) SPARC(R) computers and othercomputers compliant with SPARC(R) International SBus specifications.Serial Port Hardware: The MAGMA 4 Sp is a single width SBus board basedon the Cirrus Logic CD-1400 Serial/Parallel Asynchronous CommunicationsEngine, a RISC I/O processor capable of controlling four serial ports.The CD-1400 has many advanced features which minimize CPU overhead, themost important include: Each port's transmitter and receiver has it'sown 12 byte FIFO buffer which minimizes the number of interrupts the CPUmust service. Flow control is handled automatically by the CD-1400,without intervention by the CPU. Several MAGMA Sp boards can beconfigured in a system. The driver is optimized to reduce CPUutilization and treats all of the MAGMA Sp boards in the system as asingle device. Multiple service requests can be handled in a single passthrough the driver. Software: The MAGMA 4 SP device driver is designedto take advantage of the board's high speed serial capabilities. Thedriver is compatible with Solaris(R) 2.x and SunOS(TM) 4.1+ and supportsall features of both systems. It is delivered on a 3.5" diskette andfeatures "plug and play" installation.
